Three parts of Bali in eight days, in the order that makes sense of them: Ubud's temples and rice terraces first, then the cliffs and mantas of Nusa Penida, and a slow finish on the Bukit, near the airport.
In Ubud you walk the Campuhan ridge before the heat, bathe at the Tirta Empul water temple if you wish, and spend a day in the Jatiluwih rice terraces and at Taman Ayun, both part of the UNESCO-listed landscape of Bali's subak water system.
On Nusa Penida the island is timed for its light: Broken Beach at golden hour, Kelingking at first light, the mantas by private boat and Diamond Beach at sunrise.
The last two days are on the Bukit peninsula, with a free day and an evening at Uluwatu Temple for the Kecak and dinner.
Nusa Penida has only a handful of truly high-end places to stay, and they fill early. If none suits your dates, we will tell you before you pay and suggest a base on Nusa Lembongan, which has more choice and is 15 minutes away by boat.
