Broken Beach is a round cove joined to the open sea by a rock arch, with a path around its rim. Angel's Billabong, five minutes away, is a rock pool on the edge of the ocean. At midday both are crowded; by late afternoon the day tours have left for their boats.
We arrive as the light starts to warm and walk the full loop of the rim, about twenty minutes without stops, with the arch below you most of the way.
At Angel's Billabong your guide watches the sea before anyone goes near the edge. On a low tide with no swell you can step down to the pool. When waves are washing over the rocks, and they often are, we look from the top. People have been swept off these rocks, and the pool is not worth the risk.
We finish at Crystal Bay for sunset, with a cold coconut or a drink at one of the bars on the sand, then drive you home.
